Pete started playing the cornet at the age of 7 under the watchful eye of Don Blakeson. He became a member of Youth Brass 2000 in 1992 and was principal cornet by the age of 13. With Youth Brass he won best soloist prizes at both the National and European Youth Entertainment Championships. After winning the Radio 2 Youth Band of the Year competition in 2000 Peter was featured as a soloist during a special “Listen to the Band” programme hosted by Frank Renton on BBC Radio 2. He was appointed principal cornet of the Band of the Ancient Order of Foresters at 15 and held this position until he went away to university. He was a solo cornet with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and toured with the Young Ambassadors Band of Great Britain on principal cornet. After three years studying Politics and Philosophy at the University of Warwick he turned his hand to the trumpet and received a scholarship to study as a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music in London. While in London he became a founder member of the Collegiate Brass Quintet. Highlights of his time in London included playing on stage between Morris Murphy and Rod Franks. He has set up a number of successful brass schemes in Independent Schools both in London and in the Midlands and devotes as much time as he can to encouraging young people to play brass instruments. He is also working with Chris Jeans at his old youth band as resident conductor, and has been conducting the newly named Foresters Brass 2000 (previously the Ancient Order of Foresters) since September 2003. He currently holds the position of principal cornet with the Thoresby Colliery Band , a position which he accepted in October 2006. He also regularly performs as a soloist, taking part in recitals and competitions around the country. He hopes to continue pushing the boundaries of existing trumpet repertoire and has been involved in a number of collaborations with renowned pianist Jo Sealey which will result in a CD of their efforts being produced towards the end of the year.
